General hotel wisdom says you just shouldn't comment on guests' names. Chances are they'll be offended. Do I let Rodney King and James Brown go by without comment. I did not ask Mr. Pickle if he knew Mr. Hamburger. And I did not crack a smile when Mr. Cupp spelled out his name... C U P P). But yesterday when Mr. Doctor checked in, I just had to ask if he had his PhD... and he did!

Life is better with Doctor Doctor in the world.

Hopefully that is just her married name and her parents were just not that mean to her.

I love when they come to check in and you ask their name and they start spelling it for you S-m-i-t-h.

One time I had a couple of gentlemen from the same company check in together. I barely refrained from handing Mr. Ball and Mr. Butts their keys with the exclamation, "Naughty Bits, party of two, your rooms are ready!"

I had the opportunity (or misfortune) of checking in/out:

Ms. Rosemary Dill
Mr. Dick Hiscocks
Mr. and Mrs. Penisse
Mr. Couch

That's all I can think of for now...I know I've had more...

I think I mentioned it before, but I once got a rooming list with the last name Schitter. I giggled for like a day. (Because I'm 12. And a half.) Then the meeting planner sent me a revised list and his last name was really spelled Schnitter. Too bad, the first one was more awesome!

Can't forget my Ms. HoeGerl, pronounced 'ho-girl' by me when she checked in, and I barely kept a straight face. I think i need to start a tally of all the weird names over on FrontDeskBlog

Wow, a real Justin Case is out there? We, and I'm sure a lot of hotels, use that as the name we put on reservations when we want to hold them for if/when something goes wrong and we're sold out.

We haven't had any good names in a while, but when we do I always write down the reservation number and leave it in one of my front desk girls folder and tell her 'yay! funny name reservation'

Yep...a real Justin Case. The property that I worked at back then also used the name to hold extra rooms, so I was pretty entertained indeed when he arrived.

I had a Mrs. Doody check in a while back... And just last week, there was a lady whose last name was Whitehorn, but she pissed off the reservationist, so when she called to make changes to her reservation, it came up as Whitewhore. "Okay, now what was it you needed to change on your reservation, Ms. Whitewhore?" She was a little upset about that. >D

OMG you actually called her whitewhore?? that's great :)
