Dear guests:

The free internet we provide for you is a convenience, not a God-given right. I am sorry I don't have the power to magically bring the server back up to speed, but you'll just have to freaking live with it for now, because I'm not going to throw my back out trying to yank all those heavy stacked chairs from the storage room where our server's kept so I can reset it in hopes that this will fix the problem.

I second that statement. We switched phone companies a couple weeks ago and it seems the wireless is a bit slower than it what it used to be, though it still works fine. Of course one ass has to bitch that it's too slow every day and every day says he'll call tech support. Well just do that instead of whining to us all the time about it? It's a convenience AND it's free so stop your whiny ass bitching.

I work in tech support for a hotel chain that offers free high speed internet.

I get so sick of hearing, "The internet is slow. This isn't high speed."
Me: "The system here is 10 mbps.
Guest: "That's not fast."
Me: "It's faster than dial-up."

Jeez, people! It's free! Get a grip.

I feel your pain. It's also not fair for them to expect that the front desk person has any training to deal with the server or any of the internet equipment. We tell the guest service agents not to touch anything unless we expressly tell them to. If we're doing something in the system and they just arbitraily reset things because a guest tells them to that can screw it up big time.

Call tech support, that's what we're there for. That way WE can laugh at the stupid.

Re: Aww your internet is not working sir.........

We have users who find the other hotels' networks and want us to support them. No go. We also have guests at other properties who want us to support their connectivity to our network (big H), but that's kinda hard to do when we can't check their WAPs, wireless bridges, etc...

at my property

We had issues where our free wireless didn't work for some, and they wanted a discount off the room-as it was advertised and not available.

Now we charge extra, $1/day $5/week- if it doesn't work for you, we happily refund your dollar, no questions asked.
